Today was my third day in aged care placement. I started at 2pm and finished at 10pm. Todays shift was quite different to last weeks, as the mornings seem very busy where as in the evening shifts it starts to get more quite around 8pm. In todays shift a difficulty that I ran into was getting a particular resident into bed who had dementia. I have never dealt with someone who has this disease so I found it a bit difficult by my self but all it took was time, walking and talking with her all the way to her room and reassuring her it was bedtime. After I put her into bed I felt good that I handled that situation by my self, it certainly gave me more confidence in dealing with the residence who suffer from such dementia.
