Today I had my first clinical placement in aged care. I got introduced to 3 fellow student nurses from AUT who became my good friends through the day. We first got familiar with the staff and emergency exits and procedures at the facility. For me I was really nervous starting off in aged care, but as the day proceeded I got to know the history of the residents living there and really grew a liking to the elderly my first day was such a learning curve of emotions. I never thought working in aged care would be emotional but it is very sad when they have dementia or a physical impediment they might not use to have.
